In 2025, we offered a live Q&A session to help answer any questions the community had about attending RAR NAR. This is a list of questions we discussed. You can also check out the full Instagram Live recording!
Do I need to bring my own bike?
No! We have loaner bikes and RAR NAR has plenty of offerings to enjoy with no bike at all! Please reach out if you would like to borrow one of our community bikes.
Do you have a packing list?
Yes we do! You can check it out here. This doc is also linked on the logistics page.
Can I take the train to RAR NAR?
There are two Amtrak lines that you can take to get to the general region where the bike retreat is hosted-- the Vermonter and the Ethan Allen Express. This is a good option for folks not planning on bringing a bike, or who can book a bike spot early. Check out more information on the travel section of the logistics page!
Will there be opporunties to hammock camp?
Yes! There are plenty of good trees on this property to hang hammocks. If you are trying to decide between bringing your hammock set up and a tent, you are welcome to bring both and decide once you arrive, but we think you will be impressed with the hanging options onsite. There's quite a few promising trees right along the water's edge teehee...
Is there a secure bike storage/ bike rack situation onsite?
We will be the only ones using the camp property all weekend, which is located in a remote area away from traffic. You are welcome to bring a bike lock to secure your bike if that makes you feel more comfortable, but we are not worried about security on this land. It will jsut be our community onsite! We will have bike racks set up at key areas onsite for folks to store their bikes.
What kind of bike should I bring?
A gravel bike is best for this event! A mountain bike would also work. Most of the rides we are doing during the retreat will be a mix of paved and gravel roads/ gravel trails.
I heard the parking onsite is limited. How will this work?
There is parking available onsite for anyone who needs it. We do ask that you try to carpool as best as you can because spaces are limited and cars are bad for the earth but we can accomodate the vehicles we anticipate arriving on site that weekend. There are a few main parking areas throughout the property, some of which are quite near camping areas for easy access to your car if that will mkae things simpler for you!
What is the bug situation?
Prepare to encounter some insects on this wooded waterfront property. However, the major mosquito and black fly season will have passed before the retreat occurs! September is so lovely in that way.
Do we have to decide on one workshop to attend during each block, or can we meander between them?
All of the workshop locations will be walking distance to one another and you are more than welcome to wander between them during each block! You do not have to feel tied to the schedule at all-- if you want to go ride or rest during workshop times, that is always an option. We want this to feel like a retreat and a build-your-own adventure. If all you do in lay on your back in the grass for all four days, we consider that a successful RAR NAR!!
